Priorities for Churchill County
1. Water
a. Continued vigilance regarding the upstream use of the Carson River
b. Continued vigilance regarding the upstream use of the Truckee River
c. Assurance that the underground aquifer is replenished appropriately
d. Continued exploration and feasibility of Dixie Valley water source.
e. Continued cooperation with TCID regarding flood control and water efficiencies
2. Economic Development
a. Support in initiate efforts to bring new and innovative industry to Churchill County
b. Work with CEDA and the City of Fallon to get the word out on Churchill County
c. Promote the use of the Regional Park as a destination for multiple events
3. Infrastructure
a. Acquire federal and state funding for water and waste water expansion
b. Initiate commercial and industrial development
c. Continue to work with NVEnergy and other state and private agencies to facilitate expansion
4. Housing
a. Initiate low cost and other residential housing
b. Streamline building code as we work toward more efficient and less time-consuming rules and regulations.
5. Navy Modernization Plan
a. Receive assurances for reimbursement for grazing, mineral, water, and land confiscation.
b. Continue to articulate the county’s position regarding the confiscation of lands and roads critical to Churchill County
c. Initiate efforts with Congressional Delegation regarding the transfer of Wilderness Study Areas in the county to Churchill County in exchange for the land lost to the Navy Modernization Plan
6. Promote Health and Safety
a. Provide continues support for the Public Health Board initiatives
b. Support law enforcement through budget and other means
c. Support plans to slow the effects of the opioid and meth epidemics.
d. Explore ideas for dealing with the homeless population
7. Transportation
a. Continue to fund and support the Road Department
b. Explore plans for new and innovative transportation opportunities (i.e. rail, I-11, addition stop lights) and funding for these projects.
8. Support and enhance new and innovative agricultural initiatives (i.e. hemp, dairy, water efficiencies, etc.)
