12. Western Nevada College, Fallon Campus – Everyone who knows me, as well as those who read this blog, will understand the strength of my concern for, and commitment to, the local college after my retirement. As a WNC employee I had responsibilities that, for many years, were fulfilling to me as a person and, in my conviction, helped me accomplish much that was positive for our community and surrounding counties. I also believe a college campus within our community facilitates economic development and the general growth and prosperity of our residents. I further believe that each aspect of the college mission (i.e., university transfer, developmental education, workforce development, and community service) as important as the next and cannot be placed above another. Therefore, we must do everything we can to preserve the existence and operation of a local community college which will embrace and exemplify each element of the mission.
I PLEDGE to work with local, state, federal, and private resources to maintain a college presence within Churchill County. Having been a Western Nevada College administrator for more than 25 years, I have knowledge and an institutional history that may be of value to our county and city officials when critical decisions regarding the college are considered. If elected to the County Commission, I will need to abstain from voting on any matters related to the college, but I will assist in any way I can to ensure sound decision-making.
