3. Water Resources – Water is a critical natural resource of Churchill County and must be conserved and protected. Without the appropriate management of our underground aquifers, Churchill County, the City of Fallon, and NAS Fallon will not survive. Without the surface water provided by irrigation in the Lahontan Valley, the public and private wells will not be adequately replenished. In addition, the county needs to continue the Agricultural Easement program currently operating in cooperation with the Navy. Keeping the vast majority of acreage in Churchill County in agriculture will maintain our underground aquifer and maintain our surface water. It is essential that we remain vigilant and defend the water rights of Churchill County.
I PLEDGE that I will continue to protest against the transfer of water rights to those outside the county. I will also work closely, first of all, with TCID and other interested parties to best manage the surface water of our county and, secondly, with the City of Fallon to protect the underground aquifers, with residents of both the county and city being heavily dependent about their water systems. I will also work with government entities to articulate our position to protect this valuable natural resource of our county.
