I have this blog to introduce myself and my Planks and Pledges to Churchill County District 1 as I plan to continue with my campaign for County Commissioner. Please browse through the information I have here and feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have.

1. Ag & Public Lands

1.  Agriculture and Public LandsChurchill County relies heavily on agriculture to sustain our economic engine.  The farming and ranching industries of Churchill County must be preserved.  We must (1) work to preserve grazing allotments, (2) encourage new agricultural industries, (3) work with TCID, federal and state representatives, tribes, and farmers and ranchers to resolve water disputes, (4) develop appropriate polices to protect future water needs from outside encroachment, and (5) keep public lands public and  prevent them from becoming inaccessible in future years. (6) Continue to Agricultural Easement program in cooperation with NAS Fallon.  The program helps to maintain our agricultural presence in the county and preserves our aquifer. (7)  In response to the Navy Modernization Plan, we need to work with the U.S. Congress to pass the Churchill County Lands Bill.  As the Navy looks to take approximately 480,000 acres from public use in Churchill County, it is important that we work to protect public lands for geothermal, grazing and mining enterprises.  The Churchill County Lands Bill will help to offset much of what the Navy Modernization will do to our way of life.

I PLEDGE to continue my advocacy of the agricultural community within Churchill County.  I will work in the best interests of farmers and ranchers to preserve grazing rights, recruit new agriculturally related industries, resolve water disputes, prevent outside encroachment on individual water rights, and preserve public lands.
