5. Economic Development – Our local economic development efforts must be unified and focused to bring most favorable economic opportunities to our county. It is important to (1) advocate for existing businesses within Churchill County and provide an atmosphere within which they will thrive; (2) partner with the City of Fallon in telling our story in the most articulate and concise way and working together in much the way both city and county are working to bring the powdered milk company to Churchill County; (3) cultivate our friends by having Churchill County continue participation and provide leadership in the Western Nevada Development District (WNDD) and other regional economic development authorities. Also essential is Churchill County’s continued active membership in the Nevada Association of Counties (NACO)) and its partnership with other rural counties to develop alliances which will benefit the economic development of rural Nevada. (4) It is important to find new sources for funding infrastructure projects in the county. We are currently exploring numerous federal opportunities to fund roads, bridges, water and waste water extension projects. These projects will be needed, and residential housing and industrial development takes place. (5) Encourage new development in affordable housing – both single family and multi-family dwellings.
I PLEDGE to provide leadership in the economic development of Churchill County. I will partner with the City of Fallon to provide the optimal environment for existing businesses and industries. I will also work to bring new clean industries to Churchill County, which will provide good jobs and not drain our natural resources.
