4. Renewable Energy – Churchill County, rich in geothermal and solar power resources, has the capability of piloting Nevada and the nation with regard to these two renewable sources of energy. We must work closely with industry leaders to best develop them. At the same time, it is critical that we not “give away the farm” and, therefore, negotiate optimum agreements for our county. In order to do this, elected officials and county employees must do their homework to best represent Churchill County’s interests before the Public Service Commission, the legislature’s Natural Resource Committee, the Department of Energy and other decision-making bodies. We must negotiate in good faith with companies and with a basic working knowledge of those industries. However, it is also important that we represent the citizens of Churchill County by articulating the need for appropriate corporate taxation (property, sales and use assessments) to prevent the abatement of needed funds that support infrastructure development and maintenance.
I PLEDGE to protect the natural resources and the financial interests of Churchill County. I will work to the best of my ability with local, state, and federal authorities to articulate our message. I will also collaborate with industry leaders to further resource development in our county.
